Unlocking is an extremely easy concept to explain something. Unless otherwise indicated, retail stores bought cellphones transport are "locked" to that specific company. For example, a Verizon Blackberry Storm will not work on a calling plan AT & T. The Sprint Palm Pre will not work on T-Mobile. Even your iPhone from AT & T is "locked" to that infamous blue-mapping company.

So what do you do if you want to buy a phone you want, but use it with another company, perhaps one that costs less and gets better reception in your area? For most people would say "eh fa-gettaboutit!" (In Brooklyn / sweet Italian accent I might add). But for those of you lucky enough to have apples on the back of the phone, there are ways to ease your beloved fighting iPhone AT & T.
Unlock Vs Software Unlock Hardware.
Technically, there are 2 ways to go about unlocking your iPhone. There is a hardware unlock, which is invasive (you have to open the phone), I do not recommend that someone is unless you have a very broad experience in some kind of electrical engineering.

The second form, much easier, software version, you can do on your lunch for sixth grade. Like the jailbreak, this can be as easy as connecting the iPhone to the computer and clicking "Start". However, the requirements to unlock and rules to follow are very different.
Things to consider before unlocking
There are guidelines to follow when thinking about unlocking your iPhone.

First you need to make sure that the company you are wanting to go to supports iPhone s technology. I'll keep everyone here in the US for a while and let the cat out of the bag. If unlocked, really the best option is T-Mobile, the other major wireless GSM operator. Other vehicles, lower CDMA (any centennial wireless users out here ??) users have confirmed unlocking work, but chances are if your reading an article about unlocking, they are referring to T-Mobile (at least here in the US).

Second, you need to know the version of firmware and modem firmware (or base designated frequency band). This is easily discovered by popping into your iPhone settings and opening "in the window". Now if you can not seem to find it, I have fear for you, but I'm here for you, I've provided some photos below to help.

These 2 things are important to understand, because they determine if you can unlock the iPhone or not. If you are even thinking of jail breaking or unlocking, it is best to stay away from software update iTunes or iPhone, as the war between Apple Dev Team and continues, each new update can disable or prevent future outbreaks.

As you can see at the moment, have a job for firmware 3.1.3 and base band 05.11, but if you recently updated your iPhone and have the 05.12 base band, you're in luck yet. A release is in the works, but the field is empty ETA so, do not hold your breath.

Finally, if you meet the above requirements and are ready to unlock, you must first jailbreak. However, as can be seen in all hyperlinks in this article, I wrote an article about the jailbreak, and I know the world Sebastien has great tutorials section of the blog "tutorials", so if you have not done check things out, meet me back here in five.

Who comes up with unlocking?
The last part of our segment today on the release is the software for the first time by the great development team and the child prodigy Geohot New Jersey. Geohot, who recently announced hack the PS3, actually received media attention for your iPhone unlocked and given a new Nissan 350z by the co-founder of CertiCell, not bad eh.

But the backbone of the jailbreak / unlock community, Dev Team, have been the main candidates stable since. Your QuickPwn Reds now, Pwnage Tool and software have been a staple in the iPhone hacking community for years.

Usually, when you are using these programs to jailbreak will be prompted to unlock one of the steps is needed. Here lately, however, programs Task 1 and Ultra snow have been relevant, also by the development team, also available in our download section.

conclusion
Well, that is launching in 10 minutes or less, the key really is what is running firmware version of your firmware / modem, and understand that there is no unlock for firmware 3.1.3 if you have 05.12 modem firmware (band base).

The model of the iPhone also matter if the iPhone 3G, 3GS, or original. Model Support for any software version is seen usually in the description of the download. And if I have not completely crushed your dreams yet, no way to downgrade your base band (let us know if you get Fuzzyband to work, listen bootloader to high). What am I talking about bootloaders, base bands should probably get out of here before things get really crazy.
